Gothia Cup

2020 Participation

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that the club will withdraw from the Gothia Cup 2020 due to the Coronavirus situation.

It was sad having to make such a decision, particularly after all the work that had been done on and off the park by the squad, support staff and parents, not to mention the promise being shown by this team.

The club is working hard to find an alternative tournament for the players to participate in.

In 2019 we embarked on one of the most exciting ventures in the club's history when we travelled to Gothenburg Sweden to take part in the girls U16's division of the Gothia Cup.

Known as the World Youth Cup, the Gothia Cup started in 1975, and since that first tournament almost 1 million players from 146 countries have participated in the competition, so we were incredibly proud and honoured to be the first-ever female team from Western Australia to take part in this prestigious event.

Our involvement in the Cup was due to the very generous support of the Swedish Women's Educational Association. SWEA  approached us in March 2018 to see if we would be interested in accepting their offer of a sponsorship, which would cover the costs associated with playing in the tournament.

SWEA are involved in promoting the Swedish culture and language both here in Perth and worldwide, and saw the Gothia Cup as an ideal way of introducing young Perth female soccer players to the Swedish culture.

In addition to SWEA, we secured the generous support of Candy People, Search Smart and Bars&More.

We sent a squad of 16 players, plus coaches Ali McMurdo and Shane Atkins and manager Tim Hodgson, to Gothenburg and they played in the tournament from July 14th - July 20th. The girls, coaches and travelling supporters had the trip of a lifetime and were amazing ambassadors for both the club and female soccer in Western Australia in general.
